British owners of ‘Rhino’ the Hamster are in shock after he sprang back to life and dug his way out of his own grave. Dave Eyley found the family’s four year old hamster “cold and lifeless” in his cage, but being precautious, Eyley left Rhino in his cage all day while he was at work and returned to find him in the same state as when he left. After a couple of confirmation pokes, he decided the pet was in fact deceased…so he thought. Eyley proceeded to bury the family pet in the backyard in a plastic box 50 centimetres below the earth’s surface. Mr Eyley couldn’t believe his ears (and eyes) the next day when he received a call from the neighbour claiming, “Your hamster has escaped and I’ve just caught him”. WHAT THE?! Yes, Rhino had sprung to life and clawed his way out of his box, through the soil then ran around the backyard happy as…well, a hamster. How you might ask? Some veterinarians believe the sudden cold snap may have sent little Rhino into a sort of hibernation mode. His drop in body temperature would have caused his limp body to feel cold. Dave Eyley said, "We're stunned, but happy to have him back." The Eyley family have renamed Rhino to Jesus, a fitting choice after Easter. IN OTHER HAMSTER NEWS… Oh it’s a big week for hamsters…or hamster fans. This bloke, Yann Falquerho, and fellow architect Frederic Tabary have created the Hamster Villa Nantes, France. A concept that allows it’s guests to come and live like a hamster for a day. Just 99 Euros per night will get you a bed in the form of a haystack, an exercise wheel to keep fit, water through a tube, and you’ll even get fed hamster grain…yum! "The hamster in the world of children is that little cuddly animal. Often, the adults who come here have wanted or did have hamsters when they were small," said Falquerho.
