The more than 2700 unwanted weapons handed-in as part of the state’s latest gun amnesty will be destroyed.

Police and the state government have hailed the initiative as ‘successful because the firearms are no longer in circulation’.

The guns are pressed at SAPOL’s armoury so they can no longer be fired – and then sealed in a metal bin and taken to a facility to be destroyed.
