There should be 24 hour cover to support volunteer firefighters according to the CFS.

The Services Volunteers Association believes the Adelaide-based communications centre, currently staffed part-time, is vital to firefighters particularly during the bushfire season.

The State Government absorbed the facility into a combined state fire and emergency communication centre in 2007, servicing the CFS, MFS and SES.

It also scaled back the CFS centre's operating hours during the fire danger season and only 60 hours a week for the rest of the year.
