A woman has had emergency surgery for chest wounds after she was struck by a homemade firework at Sellicks Beach.

Emergency services went to a property late Saturday night after reports the victim, 27, had been hit by shrapnel.

Police say the incident is a reminder about the dangers of fireworks – especially the homemade kind.
