New emergency bushfire detour routes for the SE freeway and Dukes Highway probably won’t please every motorist.

It’ll mean some drivers will be forced to travel hundreds of kilometres out of their way.

For example, the closure of the 5km Swanport Interchange will force motorists to drive 256km via Sedan and Blanchetown.

And the closure of the Dukes between Tintinara and Keith would mean a detour of 260km through either Kingston or Pinnaroo.

The state government says they’re a necessary precaution.
