Bright yellow canola crops across the Bremer Valley and elsewhere signal the potential for a record oilseed harvest, thanks to strong demand for biodiesel production in Europe.

The state's farmers are forecast to produce a near-record canola crop of over 409,000 at historically high prices of about $580 a tonne, making it worth more than $230 million.

The canola crop is well above the five-year average of about 250,000 tonnes.

All producers need now is good finishing weather in the next month.
