Drivers are being warned of a month-long campaign targeting motorists using mobile phones.

The Motor Accident Commission campaign is also complete with TV, online, print and billboard advertising as a safety reminder.

Since 2005 the number of expiation notices issued to drivers using mobile phones has more than trebled, exceeding 13,000 last year.

Senior police say ready access to the internet via smart phones has been part of the problem.
