Senior police now say the death of a Tailem Bend man hit by a goods train on Sunday appears to be accidental.

It is not being treated as a major crime even after Major Crime detectives were caslled in to assist with the investigation.

Brenton Claessen, 26, was hit by a train near Railway Tce about 7.40pm after drinking at a local hotel with his father and friends.

There is some speculation he met with some people after leaving the pub alone.

And a woman struck by a train on the Belair line is being treated for a back injury in hospital.

The 34 year old was struck at the Hawthorn station yesterday afternoon resulting in peak hour delays on the Belair line.
