A proposal for a $5 million drag racing complex at Monarto has seen the Monarto Zoo lodge an appeal.

Proponents Santel Racing received Development Assessment Panel approval in May to build and operate a ¼ mile track with full amenities including a grandstand.

The Zoo has reportedly based its appeal on many small aspects – but the main ones are noise and traffic flow.

In June, the Monarto Zoo claimed the drag strip would impact on its animals and could interfere with the zoo’s breeding programs.
