Federal Labor claims a Coalition promise to duplicate the Dukes Highway if elected is an empty pledge.

Nationals leader Warren Truss did not put a cost estimate on the project recently, but admitted it would be long-term.

He identified problem-spots along the highway which need attention in the short-term.
