A teenage girl from Strathalbyn has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing three men at Gawler.

Police say the 16-year-old girl has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated cause serious harm and aggravated assault.

A 42-year-old man suffered multiple stabs wounds to the back and chest and two other men were also injured during the same incident.

Meanwhile in response to recent stabbings, senior police say any laws that enable them to respond to violence or provide greater levels of safety within the community are always welcome. 

They say it is concerning that there seems to be a willingness by some people to resort to extreme violence with a total disregard for the potential consequences.
