A claim by the Police Association that there are up to 70 vacancies in regional SA is being disputed by the Police Force.

The force's Human Resources Management claims there are 27 empty positions and every effort is being made to fill them.

Seven of the vacancies are on hold for corporate reasons or while police housing is upgraded.

12 others are subject to transfer and eight are involved in selection processes.
