Premier Weatherill wants a shake-up of federal grant rules for water savings.

In a submission to a committee investigating River Murray reform, the state labor government complains of significant waste upstream which allows NSW and Victoria to bid for funds.

Mr Weatherill says our state shouldn’t be punished for doing the right thing when it comes to water savings.

The committee is chaired by independent MP Tony Windsor.
