Green Day have cancelled all tour dates for 2012 due to Billie Joe Armstrong’s stay in rehab. The US Green Day tour was scheduled to begin in September, though had to be postponed when Armstrong had a meltdown onstage at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas. The meltdown was triggered by a prompter alerting the band that they had one minute left on stage, an instruction Armstrong clearly wasn’t happy with. The frontman threw a tantrum on stage cursing the festival organisers and yelled, “You’re kidding me. I’m not f*****g Justin Bieber…”, before smashing his guitar. Two days later, Armstrong checked into rehab to treat substance abuse. All tour dates for 2012 from September to December have been cancelled due to his stint in rehab. Green Day were expected to tour Australia in early 2013, however announcements have now been postponed in attempts to re-schedule once Armstrong has recovered. The band have fast-tracked the release of their third of the trilogy albums Tre will now be available from December, as opposed to January 2013, and Dos will be available from the 9th of November. Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt revealed, “We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well.” “Obviously the timing for this isn’t ideal but billie Joe’s well-being is our main concern”, he added.
