Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has checked himself into a rehab facility for substance abuse after his meltdown in Las Vegas.

During a performance at the iHeart Radio Music Festival in Las Vegas, it was originally believed that the organisers had cut Green Day’s set short due to the event being 25 minutes behind schedule.

As the teleprompter informed the band they had 1 minute left, Billie Joe Armstrong had an apparent meltdown onstage.  He blasted festival staff yelling, “One minute, one minute?!” in disbelief, before informing festival-goers he is not “f***ing Justin Bieber!” 

Armstrong continued his onstage expletive-ridden rant, before giving organisers the finger and smashing his guitar telling audience members, “God f***ing love you all!  We’ll be back!”

The band later apologised for the outburst and have confirmed their set was not cut short by festival organisers.

A representative for the band has confirmed that Billie Joe Armstrong is being treated for substance abuse and the band will be cancelling some promotional appearances due to recent events.

"The band regretfully must postpone some of their upcoming promotional appearances."
