Matthew Hollingsworth, 28 is suing Spin King Shane Warne over a spat of road rage earlier this month. Mr Hollingsworth alleges Warne drove into him after a robust exchange of words in peak-hour traffic on the evening of January 17. Shane Warne allegedly "lurched his car forward striking me on the right side of my right leg and my rear wheel", Mr Hollingsworth proclaims in a statutory declaration. "I could hear pedestrian witnesses yelling, 'Get his rego', and some yelled out what sounded like a registration number," he says. "Once I was on the footpath, a young brunette woman in business clothing approached me offering assistance and asked, 'Are you OK? Are you going to follow it up? I have the rego', as she held her phone. I said, 'No, it should be OK. It was Shane Warne'. She seemed as surprised as me." Mr Hollingsworth is launching a civil claim in the Melbourne Magistrate’s Court suing for damages, interests and costs. He claims the damage to his bike alone was $1575. Warne has denied the allegations stating that Hollingsworth slapped the bonnet of his car, stopped in front of him and refused to move. "He was lucky I was polite and careful after smacking my car twice. I do not hate cyclists ... bike riders, please obey the road laws and stop antagonising car drivers,” Warne said. Shane Warne is calling for cyclists to wear compulsory registration plates so as to be held accountable should they disobey the law.
