Ever wanted to just tell a friend or work colleague “would you please stop talking about yourself”, maybe you wouldn’t say it like that, but let’s keep it PG for now.

Scientists have discovered the reason why we talk about ourselves in up to 40% of our daily speech, whether that be through personal conversations, or through social media like Facebook or Twitter.

According to the study conducted by Harvard University, acts of self-disclosure were accompanied by spurts of heightened activity in brain regions belonging to the mesolimbic dopamine system, which is associated with the sense of reward/satisfaction from food, money or sex.

So to sum it up in plain English, talking about ourselves gives us satisfaction as good as sex.

Test it out for yourself today, and check out this hilarious song dedicated to all those who talk about themselves far too much.
