You either love them or hate them, have them or don’t.  Personally, I have no issues with pet names for your partner, in fact I use them, one might even go as far to say as I love them… Ok, maybe not that far.

Whether they make you feel all warm inside, or make you feel like re-sampling this morning’s breakfast, cute pet names for partners are something we hear everyday.

In the spirit of yesterday’s festivities, news.com.au surveyed thousands of Aussie chicks and blokes and found that more than 20 per cent of us call our partner babe.

The rest of the top 10 most popular nicknames for lovers included ‘Bub/s’, ‘Baby’, ‘Bubba’, ‘Honey’, ‘Bunny’, ‘Pookie’ and ‘Princess’.  Rounding out the top 10 were “Chook” and “Pumpkin”, which were apparently pretty common for guys to call their girls.  I don’t know about the rest of the male universe, but I don’t think i have ever, or will ever, refer to my girlfriend as a vegetable or a farmyard animal, unless she becomes an “ex”, in which case the farmyard animal name would be more of the swine variety.

The survey also revealed some of the more unusual names we call our partners, some of the highlights of the weird and wonderful names included ‘Colonel Fancy Pants’, ‘Pancake Ninja’ and ‘Green Frog Fish Puppet’.

If you too now have a ‘WTF?’ look on your face, think back over your past relationships and when you may have ‘accidently’ given your partner an awkward nickname, then share it with the rest of us below.

Oh, and just in case you didn’t get enough of the love yesterday, or maybe you forgot the day all together, here’s some lines from great Hollywood movies that will keep the romance flowing… or maybe get you back in the good books if you’re good at reciting lines.
