Swimming, running, Shooting, show jumping and fencing… at first glance, these sports may not seem like they have much to do with each other, but these are the sports that make up the Olympic event know as Modern Pentathlon. Not a Massive sport by any stretch of the imagination, but today we are taking a look at one half of Australia’s Modern Pentathlon team – 20 year old Chloe Esposito! Pic: South west Advertiser.Chloe’s Father was involved in the Sport, representing Australia at the LA Olympics in 1984, as well as making selection for the Seoul Olympics in 1988, where a last minute injury prevented him from competing. With such a pedigree, it’s no surprise that Chloe got involved, and in 2007, made history as the youngest ever Australian female Modern Pentathlete to compete at an Olympic selection event. Unfortunately, she missed out, but 4 years later, an 8th at the 2011 Asia/Oceania championships in China cemented her a spot on the team for London! Chloe in action. Pic: Insidethegames.bizWith Olympic Selection in the bag, Chloe started 2012 in hot form, claiming 5th and 3rd in the opening two world cup events this year to climb into the world number one ranking. Chloe’s immediate goal in London is to become the first Australian to claim an Olympic medal in the Modern Pentathlon… as she told Insidethegames.biz
Unfortunately, Modern Pentathlon is one of the final medals to be decided at the Olympics – she’ll have to wait until the final day at 7am to compete!! Go Chloe! – To Find out more about Chloe, Check out her AOC Profile Here. |
