Resources giant Boral says it  has begun complying with new water conditions which are part of the environmental licence requirements for the continued operation of the Berrima colliery at Medway.

The Pollution Reduction programs have been added to the colliery's Environment Protection Licence and are designed to improve the company's flow and water quality testing for the site's Waste Management Plan.

Medway Operations Manager, Stuart Hutchings says protecting the environment and compliance with environmental requirements are paramount for Boral.

Mr Hutchings says data collection started earlier this week and the information gathered will help to set future limits on the quality of water released from the mine.

He says the conditions form part of the Planning Assessment Commission's approval of the mine expansion and are not related to the court action announced by the Southern Highlands Coal Action Group.
