Feds To Pump In $26,000 For Mary Poppins Statue

mary poppins on bradman oval Proposals to erect a life size statue in Bowral  of the legendary Mary Poppins have been given a shot in the arm with a federal government grant of more than $20,000.

The Southern Highlands Youth Arts Council wants to erect the statue in recognition of the fact the Poppins creator P.L. Travers, lived in Bowral until 1917.

Throbsy MP Stephen Jones says the grant of $26,400 will help make the statue a reality.

The Southern HIghlands Youth Arts Council has also raised a considerable sum for the project via a number of activities, including the creation of a Mary Poppins outline on Bradman Oval.

Mr Jones says along with  Tulip Time, the Bradman Museum and its International Cricket Hall of Fame, the new statue will be a great attraction for the town.

Its planned the area around the re-creation of Poppins will become the centre of events, festivals and tourism campaigns.
