Highlands Fire Volunteers Run Off Their Feet
Tuesday, 10 July 2012 01:36

Volunteers from the Southern Highlands Rural Fire Service have reported one of their busiest times in the last couple of years, attending almost 100 incidents since late last week.

A spokesman says the incidents have varied from house fires, to car crashes and bush alight.

While permits are not required for burn offs at the moment,  authorities are warning locals to be very mindful of current and even more importantly forecast weather conditions, before lighting up.

There have been a number of reports of burn offs getting away, while volunteers are also warning people to make sure the flues and chimneys of wood heaters and open fires are cleaned on a regular basis.
