The Southern Highlands Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service have opened a newly refurbished joint control centre in Picton. The new complex joins the Rural Fire Service Headquarters at Mittagong and will be used to control the management of fires and other emergencies throughout Wollondilly Shire. Chief Superintendent Bruce Mc Donald of the Rural Fire Service says the new complex features a re-designed operations room, training section and kitchen and dining area. It will also house equipment and vehicles, used by the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service. Volunteers from Wollondilly RFS respond to an average of 600 calls a year. |
