A Nowra man has been rescued after getting lost on a solo bush walk in some of the most rugged and remote country between the southern tableland and the south coast.

The 33 year old set out from a spot near Braidwood on Sunday for a walk through the Morton and Budawang National Parks.

All went well until yesterday afternoon, when the man became disorientated and he was forced to activate his  personal EPIRB distress beacon.

The Westpac Rescue helicopter was called in from Moruya and found the man at the base of a steep ravine 7KM west of Pigeon House Mountain.

The man was flown back to the helicopter base at Moruya airport and treated for mild hypothermia.
