Locals Denied A Change To Comment On Wongabri- For Now
Thursday, 28 June 2012 00:10

arkwright juliet A change of heart by Clr Juliet Arkwright overnight (wed) means the land swap proposal for Bowral's Eridge Park will go through the state government's gateway planning process before the community is asked to comment.

A group of five councillors voted last meeting to see whether the community was in favour of rezoning community land at Eridge Park to allow a developer to establish an aged care facility on the site.

In exchange, the sporting fields would be constructed on the Wongabri property beside the Wingecarribee River between Bowral and Moss Vale.

However, last night, Clr Arkwright changed her position and voted in favour of the rescission motion allowing the proposal to go to the state government first.

Clr Paul Tuddenham said council was not approving the proposal at this stage... it would go to the state government where all the necessary reports and plans would be obtained to ensure the community has all the detail.

It is understood that the Eridge Park sporting groups are supportive of the land swap deal but want to see more details before fully committing to the proposal.

It could take up to three months for the proposal to go through the gateway process by which time a new council will have to deal with the matter.
