Wingecarribee Council candidate, Greg Franklin has taken up the fight for an elderly Yerrinbool couple who have seen the public road leading to their property deteriorate over the last 20 years, to the point where it is virtually impassable.

John and Jean Powell live at the end of Government Road which was split in two by the Hume Highway and sealed by the Roads and Traffic Authority many years ago.

The couple say the road is gazetted and council should be responsible for its upkeep, but the shire has so far refused to repair it.

He says the road is in such a poor condition that emergency service vehicles may have trouble getting to their property in the event of a bushfire or medical emergency
