AGL plans to develop the power station at Dalton, using natural gas from the Moomba to Sydney pipeline. The power station would have an initial capacity of 750mw but over time, and with additional generators in stage two, it could double capacity. Designed to only generate power during periods of peak demand, the station would only operate for about 15% of the year. Locals say they have a range of concerns including noise and allowing industrial development in a rural area. Referral of the project to the Planning Assessment Commission comes in the same week as AGL competitor Origin Energy announced it was dumping plans for the Big Hill power station, near Canyonleigh. |
