Clr Greg Watson Takes On Jo Gash In Mayoral Race
Tuesday, 17 July 2012 10:24

Cr Greg Watson has this morning confirmed he will make another run for the Shoalhaven Mayoral position.

In a media conference at South Nowra this morning Cr Watson announced he will not only stand for mayor, but head up a team which will contest seats in the city's three wards.

He has been on council continuously for 38 years, and has served 14 as mayor or shire president.

Cr Watson will stand in the central Shoalhaven's Ward two, along with Save Nowra Pool campaigner Fiona Phillips, Dennis Williams and Anne Hollis-Coats.

The northern ward one will include a ticket with former councillor June Baker and ward three Mark Kitchener, former deputy principal of St Mary's Catholic School at Milton.

Cr Watson says the biggest issue facing the city over the next four years is the looming un-employment crisis.

Nowra Bomaderry's un-employment rate is already over 10%, double the national average, with fears it will worsen, as the retail, construction and manufacturing sectors are hit by the economic downturn.

Cr Watson says he has the runs on the board for helping reduce the jobless rate.
