A new community food store will be  opening in Ulladulla next  week to provide relief  for people  experiencing financial stress, as a result of cost of living increases.

The store will be open Tuesdays,Wednesdays and Fridays between 9:30 and 3:30, in the Top of The Town complex near the Salvation Army.

The service is open to  anyone with a health care card or pension card.

Operating as a not for profit business all proceeds will be used to meet rent, electricity costs and buying stock.

Organisers estimate it will cost  $280 just to open the doors every week

Services coordinator Liz Carpenter says there will often be a wide selection of food and necessary items highly discounted.

Shoppers will be able to purchase 15 items for $15 or 30 items for $30.

When available bread and milk, plus fruit and vegetables will be free.
