A young and aspiring Berry resident has announced his intention to run in the September Local Government Election, standing  as a councillor in the northern  Ward 1.

25 year old Jacob Khourey, who works in the hospitality industry, grew up in the Bay and Basin area, and will be running as a member of the Shoalhaven Action Team.

He says there is a need for new faces to bring fresh  ideas to Shoalhaven Council,  bridging the generation gap between young and old.

With a passion for youth and community issues, Mr Khourey, who is  completing a bachelor of arts and community development,  believes council should provide more youth services across the city.

If elected Mr Khourey says one of his aims will be to unite the Berry community, divided over the location of the town by pass, which is to be built on the initially preferred northern alignment
