The Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre is to be turned into an ice skating rink in the new year.

For almost four weeks over January the main floor area of the Bridge Road centre will be covered with a thin layer of ice.

The transformation will be made possible with a portable rink which Shoalhaven Council is hiring from a private contractor.

Cr Andrew Guile says it will be a huge attraction for locals and visitors alike over the peak summer period.

Cr Guile says the portable ice skating rink was used at Mackay in far north Queensland and was a huge success.
