Democratic Process Hijacked – Councillor
Tuesday, 26 June 2012 00:39

bob proudfoot A Shoalhaven Councillor says he is deeply disturbed at what he believes is an audacious move to hijack the city's decision making process, handing over power to committees and senior council staff.

Currently most major matters go before council's committees, where recommendations are made, and then voted on by the full council at a later date.

Under the new plan to be discussed tonight the city's Policy, Resources and Reserves Committee and the Development Committee would be able to make decisions under delegated authority, without being referred to full council for ratification.

Its also been recommended the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre Board be disbanded, and there be a major shake up of others groups like the Sports, Tourism and Arts Boards.

Cr Bob Proudfoot says the move totally strips council of the democratic decision making process
