Australia's largest military transport aircraft flew into Nowra yesterday.(mon)

The Boeing C17 cargo jet approached HMAS Albatross from the north, flying low and slow over East Nowra and Worrigee.

The jet taxied to the handstand at the northern end of the airfield, dwarfing the large A and B hangers as it pulled up in front of them.

Australia has five Globemasters as they are also known, with a 6th on order, for delivery early next year.

They are based at the Amberly Air Force base west of Brisbane.

They operate in and out of Nowra occasionally , usually in the process of transferring Sea Hawk helicopters between the naval air station and Western Australia.

Before the arrival of the C17 the helicopters had to fly between Nowra and the west coast, which could take up to three days.
