A Shoalhaven Councillor has lashed out at the state government over moves to charge struggling community groups, which provide life saving rescue services,  more than $400 a year to use crown land.

Several of the Shoalhaven's Marine Rescue including  operations at Crookhaven Heads, Huskisson, and Kiola will have to pay the charge.

While collected  by council the city says it is imposing  the fee following a directive by the state government, and Cr Greg Watson believes it will cause hardship for organisations which are already struggling
