Planning has started to salvage more than $2 million worth of boats damaged in this week's Callala carnage, as 100 KPH winds and big waves lashed the northern shores of Jervis Bay.

Almost a dozen boats are still up on the sand, up a creek or high and dry on the rocks.

Some of the boats have been smashed to pieces, while it is hoped others will be recovered with the assistance of an excavator and a four wheel drive crane.

Insurance assessor Michael Lieberman from IMS Loss Adjusters Michael Leiberman says most of boats can be fixed, but the challenge is getting them to repair workshops.
